Taiwan Music Center

Taiwan Music Center is currently engaged into three main tasks:

I. Music information integration

The Center intents to be a professional information center concentrating on Taiwan's music. Furthermore, the center would like to provide others thorough and complete information, such as Taiwan's music map and current resources allocations. Our collections is mainly based on music plates, C.D. or DV, along with books, music scores, manuscripts and archives. The priority of our collections comes, in order, as first hand information, digitalized information and general publications. In the meantime, the Taiwan Music Center is also planning systematically to conserve important documents and organizing further educational or promotional programs.


II. Music information management
  • Make a stronger connection with the web generation, develop the integration of music and technology, reinforce computerized information management, and extend functions of further information filing and information integration and circulation.
  • Emphasize on further collection of digitalized information and the integration of collected information, as well as music archives collection, conservations, recording and display.
  • Establish digitalized Taiwanese Music Information Database, enlarge Center's current digitalization equipment and audio-guiding system, provide internet music exchange function.
  • Promote exchange of digitalized music, use local or international music rights authorizations models as reference for establishing systems of digital music exchange or sharing.
  • Promote continuous training program regarding digital archives, as well as educate professional digital music specialists.

III. Music Information's sharing and circulation
  • Provide possibilities of presentation for professional music producer or creators; allow them to produce albums, conserve and promote these works. Organize small scale presentation for musicians' works.
  • Provide assistance to individual musicians or music groups to preserve their specific skills or works for further research. Support preservation and innovation of traditional music.
  • Encourage specialists in music department from all Taiwanese Universities to work on ethno music creation and presentation. Organize regular competitions and promote "Award of Ethno music Creation". Provide guidance for newly recognized musicians engage into ethno music creations.
  • Organize seminars, speeches and publish Taiwanese traditional music's year book, professional music documents or journals in order to encourage the circulation of music information.



Characteristics of Taiwan Music Center's Collections

Achievement of long term research projects:

In the recent past, Taiwan Music Center has been devoted to the research about Taiwanese different tribes music. Presently, the center has accumulated more than 30 items of original research information, including Taiwan's music resources investigation, musicians, indigenous musicians, Hakka music, Taoism music, Nan Kuan, Bei Kuan and oral-literature performance. All these are important first hand information regarding the history of Taiwan's ethno music development.

  • Research project of index of authors and resources of Bei Qu's repertoire: "Traditional noted score of Jiu Gong Da cheng's poetry of Southern and Northern Dynasties ".(project leader: Lee Dian-Quei)
  • Project of creation of digitalized files based on interpretation of music score's reliable version.

3: Taoism Music
